Weather today, Tomorrow,
The river flow is largely dependent on precipitation and snowmelt, with peak flows occurring in the spring and early summer. The river has two major tributaries, the Frenchman and the Red Willow creeks, and several dams along its course regulate its flow. During times of drought, the river can become too low for irrigation, causing economic hardship for local farmers. Interestingly, the Republican River is home to the endangered species of fish, the Topeka Shiner, and conservation efforts are being made to protect their habitat.
