The river is a tributary of the Willamette River and is fed by both melting snow and rainwater. The river is also home to several hydroelectric dams, including the River Mill Dam and the North Fork Dam. Seasonal trends show that the flow rate of the river is highest in the winter and spring months and lowest in the summer months. Interestingly, the Clackamas River was named after a Native American tribe that lived in the area known as the Clackamas people.
