The flow of the river is primarily fed by snowmelt from the Cascade Mountains and rainfall. The river has several tributaries, including the Maple Valley Creek and the Taylor Creek. The river also supplies water to the Landsburg Dam. Seasonally, the flow of the river tends to be highest in the spring due to snowmelt and lower in the summer and fall. One interesting fact about the Cedar River is that it has a history of flooding, with major floods occurring in 1946 and 2009. In response, the city of Renton has implemented flood control measures to prevent future disasters.
