Located in Monona County, Iowa, the Davis-Battle Cr. Watershed Site H-1 is a captivating example of a local government-owned dam designed by the USDA NRCS. Completed in 1966, this earth dam serves multiple purposes including fire protection, stock, and small fish pond management, as well as flood risk reduction. With a height of 38 feet and a length of 478 feet, this dam has a storage capacity of 120 acre-feet and covers a surface area of 6.1 acres within a drainage area of 0.29 square miles.

Managed by the Iowa DNR, this dam on the TR-Soldier River has a low hazard potential and has not been rated for its condition assessment. While it has a moderate risk level (3), there is currently no emergency action plan in place for this structure. Despite its lack of recent inspections and maintenance records, the Davis-Battle Cr. Watershed Site H-1 stands as a vital piece of infrastructure for water resource management in the area, showcasing the importance of sustainable water practices in the face of changing climates and increasing demands on our natural resources.
