Frd No 2, also known as Timber Creek Watershed Dam 2, is a vital flood risk reduction structure located in Cowley County, Kansas. Owned by the local government, this earth dam stands at a height of 31 feet and stretches 1100 feet in length. Completed in 1968, the dam has a storage capacity of 1459 acre-feet and serves to protect the surrounding area from potential flooding events.

Managed by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Frd No 2 is considered to have a low hazard potential with a moderate risk assessment rating. The dam, designed by A&E and USDA SCS, features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 40 feet. With a drainage area of 37.8 square miles, the dam plays a critical role in managing water flow in the Timber Creek-TR watershed, helping to safeguard the community of Floral and its residents.

While the condition assessment of Frd No 2 is not rated, the dam has undergone periodic inspections with the last inspection conducted in May 1989. With state-regulated operations and enforcement in place, the dam continues to fulfill its primary purpose of flood risk reduction. As climate change impacts continue to pose challenges to water resources, the importance of structures like Frd No 2 in protecting communities and mitigating flood risks cannot be overstated.
