Chader Dam, located in Hamilton County, Nebraska, is a privately owned structure designed by USDA NRCS in 1972 with a primary purpose of flood risk reduction. This earth dam stands at 24 feet high, with a hydraulic height of 22 feet and a structural height of 25 feet, providing a maximum storage capacity of 159 acre-feet and a normal storage of 31 acre-feet. With a drainage area of 0.8 square miles and a surface area of 7 acres, the dam plays a crucial role in managing the flow of the TR-Platte River.

Managed by the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, Chader Dam is regulated, permitted, inspected, and enforced by state authorities to ensure its safety and functionality. Despite its low hazard potential, the dam is regularly assessed to maintain its satisfactory condition. The dam's last inspection in June 2017 revealed no major issues, with an inspection frequency of 5 years. With the support of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Chader Dam continues to serve its purpose in protecting the surrounding area from potential flooding events.

As a key infrastructure in flood risk reduction, Chader Dam contributes to the overall water resource management in Nebraska. Its location near Silver Creek and the Platte River underscores its significance in safeguarding the local community from potential water-related hazards. With its stone core and soil foundation, the dam exemplifies a sustainable approach to water resource management, highlighting the importance of collaboration between private owners, federal agencies, and state authorities in ensuring the resilience of our water infrastructure in the face of changing climate conditions.
