Completed in 1975 by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the dam serves primarily for flood risk reduction while also providing benefits for fish and wildlife, recreation, and water storage. With a structural height of 67 feet and a hydraulic height of 56 feet, the dam has a maximum storage capacity of 14,000 acre-feet and a surface area of 392 acres.
The dam poses a high hazard potential and is subject to regular inspections and risk management measures by the US Army Corps of Engineers. To address flood risks associated with the dam, the Corps monitors its condition, prioritizes maintenance activities, and collaborates with local emergency managers and the public to ensure preparedness in case of a dam-related emergency. The emergency action plan for the dam is regularly updated, and maintenance and repairs are conducted as needed to ensure the dam's functionality and structural integrity. Despite the dam's mitigation efforts, the Corps acknowledges that dams do not eliminate all flood risks, and issues may arise during severe weather events or when water levels exceed storage capacity.
