Rawhide Dam, located in Elko, Nevada, was completed in 1954 for the primary purpose of irrigation. With a height of 35 feet and a hydraulic height of 27 feet, this earth dam on Bull Run Creek has a storage capacity of 1,540 acre-feet and a surface area of 147 acres. The dam is primarily owned and regulated by private entities but is also subject to state jurisdiction and oversight by the Nevada Department of Water Resources.

Despite being classified as low hazard potential and in fair condition as of the last assessment in June 2018, Rawhide Dam poses a very high risk due to its close proximity to populated areas. The dam features a controlled spillway with a width of 40 feet and is equipped with a single slide (sluice gate) outlet gate. While the dam has not undergone any significant modifications in recent years, it is subject to regular inspections every five years to ensure its structural integrity and continued safe operation.

With its strategic location in Congressional District 02 of Nevada and its critical role in irrigation, fire protection, and stock maintenance, Rawhide Dam serves as a vital water resource for the region. As water resource and climate enthusiasts continue to monitor and advocate for sustainable water management practices, Rawhide Dam remains a key infrastructure asset in maintaining the balance of water supply and demand in the area.
