Built in 1963 by the USDA NRCS, this earth dam serves primarily for irrigation purposes along the Beaver Creek. With a height of 21 feet and a length of 330 feet, the dam has a storage capacity of 59 acre-feet with a normal storage level of 46.5 acre-feet.
Despite its low hazard potential, Klaudt Dam is regulated, permitted, inspected, and enforced by the North Dakota State Water Commission (NDSWC). The dam features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 102 feet and is situated in a moderately risk-prone area. While the condition assessment is currently not rated, the dam has not undergone any modifications since its completion.
The dam does not have any outlet gates or associated structures, and its emergency action plan (EAP) status is unclear. With its strategic location and crucial role in irrigation, Klaudt Dam stands as a testament to sustainable water resource management in North Dakota.
