The dam was designed by USDA NRCS and completed in 1976 for the primary purpose of flood risk reduction. With a structural height of 31 feet and a hydraulic height of 26 feet, this dam plays a crucial role in protecting the surrounding area from potential flooding events.
Managed by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, SCS-Long Branch Creek Site-11 has a low hazard potential and a very high risk assessment rating. The dam has a normal storage capacity of 66 acre-feet and a maximum storage capacity of 225 acre-feet. Despite not having a condition assessment rating, the dam has been inspected periodically, with the last inspection conducted in 1999.
The dam features a controlled spillway and a single valve outlet gate. While the risk assessment indicates a very high risk level, the dam has not undergone any modifications in recent years. With its strategic location on TR-Long Branch Creek, this site serves as a vital infrastructure for flood protection in the region, highlighting the importance of water resource management and climate resilience efforts in Oklahoma.
