Managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), this concrete dam was completed in 1976 for hydroelectric purposes, as well as for recreation and water supply. Standing at a height of 110 feet with a hydraulic height of 93 feet, Normandy Dam has a storage capacity of 126,000 acre-feet and covers a surface area of 3,000 acres.
With a maximum discharge of 67,000 cubic feet per second, Normandy Dam poses a high hazard potential, although its condition assessment is currently not available. The dam features a controlled spillway with a width of 80 feet and utilizes Tainter gates for water release. Despite its high risk level, the dam has not been modified in recent years and is inspected every two years to ensure its structural integrity. Normandy Dam's risk assessment categorizes it as having a very high risk level of 1, highlighting the importance of ongoing monitoring and management measures to mitigate any potential hazards.
