More fog is then possible overnight across central North Dakota. - High temperatures above normal Friday through the start of next week. - Mostly dry and warm conditions through Tuesday. && .UPDATE... Issued at 1157 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Limited changes needed at this time. Some fog remains across the northwest, with some low clouds now moving into the southeast. A weak surface front may diminish the fog across the northwest later tonight, while additional fog is possible ahead of this front in central and eastern portions. Overall will continue to monitor through the night and little changes needed at this time. UPDATE Issued at 910 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Areas of fog have developed over portions of northwestern North Dakota at the time of this mid evening update, with visibility observations as as low as 1/4 mile found at times. This initial round of fog is expected to diminish over the next few hours as surface winds across the west begin to turn southwesterly and drier air moves in. Another round of fog is then expected to develop across portions of central North Dakota and linger through much of Friday morning. Have tweaked the the sky and fog grids to account for observation and the most recent model trends. Otherwise, the forecast remains in good shape. UPDATE Issued at 525 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Low stratus and patchy fog lingers over portions of the west, north central, and James River Valley at the time of this early evening update. Low clouds are expected to again expand over much of the area overnight, with patchy fog possible across much of central North Dakota, especially between the Missouri River and the Coteau in south central North Dakota. Slightly stronger winds across the northwest and the James River Valley may limit the areal extent of fog overnight as hinted by short term CAMs, but we will need to monitor model trends through the evening. Have tweaked the overnight fog and sky grids by blending in the latest models, but otherwise the forecast remains in good shape at this time. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 225 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Currently the low stratus and patchy fog continue to hang on across the state. In higher elevations there are still visibilities between half and one mile. The trends the last few hours are the stratus breaking up, especially in the central. Tonight with the moist southerly winds, more patchy fog is possible in the Highway 83 corridor, especially near rivers and bodies of water. Aloft a ridge is over the Dakotas, with an open wave dry clipper developing over the Canadian Rockies. Through the end of this week temperatures will be near or above normal with the warmer air in the ridge. Late Friday night that clipper system will pass by with a trailing front in a surface trough. This will cause winds across the state to be very breezy with west winds at 20 to 40 mph from the front and pressure gradient. Sunday winds switch to the south as a high pressure in Colorado crates a surface ridge over the Dakotas. With these strong southerly winds, expect highs in the 60s. Temperatures will then stay above normal (45 degrees) in the 50s through most of next week with warmer flow from the Pacific Northwest. After Tuesday another possible clipper system could bring some light rain or snow in the far northeast and cooling highs to the 40s up there. Elsewhere temperatures could remain 10 degrees above normal. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 1157 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Low stratus and fog, occasionally dense, lingers over northwestern North Dakota to begin the 06Z TAF period. Fog is currently being observed in the northwest, impacting KXWA. This fog may erode later tonight as a weak front moves through. Another round of low stratus and fog is expected to develop over portions of central North Dakota later tonight through Friday morning. The higher confidence in visibility reductions down to IFR to MVFR conditions is expected along Highway 83. Have opted to include MVFR ceilings at KBIS Friday morning, but have left VFR visibility at KMOT and KJMS with this update due to slightly stronger winds at these locations. IFR to MVFR ceilings are more broadly expected at KMOT, KBIS, and KJMS through Friday morning. Low stratus and fog is generally expected to improve through late Friday morning into Friday afternoon, holding over longest at KJMS. Winds overnight are expected to remain fairly light, turning from the south to southwest overnight. Winds then strengthen Friday morning and afternoon, turning gusty out of the west with sustained speeds up to 15 knots and gusts up to 25 knots over portion of the northwest and north central. && .BIS WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
