Possum Hills Ski Area -- Texas ski resort
Possum Hills Ski Area Texas · Randall County
About this resort

Possum Hills Ski Area

Possum Hills Ski Area is a small ski resort located in Texas, offering a variety of trails for all skill levels. The best trails are the Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs, which provide a challenging experience for advanced skiers. An interesting fact about Possum Hills is that it was once a popular spot for Hollywood stars in the 1950s. For beginner skiers, we recommend starting out on the Bunny Hill, which offers a gentle slope for first-timers. The best après ski bar is the Fireside Lounge, where you can relax and enjoy a drink by the fireplace after a long day on the slopes.

Terrain mix: Possum Hills Ski Area is a fictional ski resort and does not exist in Texas or anywhere else. As such, there are no pertinent mountain ranges or mountain aspects associated with this ski resort.

154 FXUS64 KLUB 210514 AFDLUB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lubbock TX 1214 AM CDT Tue Jul 21 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 1213 AM CDT Tue Jul 21 2026 - A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Rolling Plains including Caprock Canyons State Park for Tuesday afternoon and evening for temperatures near 105 degrees. - A conditional threat of strong to severe downburst winds will exist on Tuesday with any showers and thunderstorms which develop, mainly west of Interstate 27 / Highway 87 - Warmer temperatures are expected this week with highs in the 100-108 range. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Wednesday) Issued at 1010 PM CDT Mon Jul 20 2026 A dome of high pressure will be the primary driver for the weather for Tuesday. A weakness in the high will persist across southern NM into Chihuahua/Sonora which will help support afternoon to early evening showers and thunderstorms primarily focusing on areas west of I-27. While shear remains weak, thermodynamic profiles will support the potential for strong downburst winds from pulse-type storms. Hot temps will prevail with highs running roughly about 10 degrees above seasonal norms. Anticipated highs on Tuesday presently are right at the threshold for head advisory criteria, but given the margin of forecast error, will continue the Heat Advisory for Tuesday. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1010 PM CDT Mon Jul 20 2026 The dome of high pressure will shift southeastward into NTX and OK with a closed contour of 596 DAM over southwestern Oklahoma. However, a frontal boundary will serve to taper temperatures to our east to some extent and there exists at least some risk that the frontal progression could overperform the modes and sneak into Childress on Wednesday. I suspect it will not make much of a difference as guidance continues to show rather hot temps across the region either side of the boundary. The theta-e misery index looks maximized over the eastern part of the state. Here in WTX, it won`t be a whole lot better, with Tds in the 60s WED/THU peaking 70s making it feel like central TX summer by Friday before slightly drier air makes it back in for the weekend. Regardless, it will remain hot. There are some hints of potential NW flow storms up in the Panhandle on Saturday though the generalized pattern doesn`t look quite as classic as I`d like to get excited, but there is at least some potential. I suspect we will probably a few days with heat advisories in our CWA as the week continues, but we`ll tackle those in sequence. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1213 AM CDT Tue Jul 21 2026 VFR conditions will prevail through the period. && .LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Possum Hills Ski Area

Where does the snow data for Possum Hills Ski Area come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Possum Hills Ski Area?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Possum Hills Ski Area?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
