Here is a guide to the best ski resorts in Maine. One of the most popular resort areas in Maine is Sunday River, which boasts a season average of 167 inches of snowfall and a snowpack of 34 inches. Sunday River offers over 860 acres of skiable terrain with 135 trails and eight terrain parks. The resort also features a 2,340-foot vertical drop, making it one of the largest in the state. The best time to visit Sunday River is during January and February when the snowfall is at its peak. Sugarloaf Mountain, located in the Carrabassett Valley, is another favorite ski destination in Maine. With an average snowfall of over 200 inches and a snowpack of 40 inches, Sugarloaf has 1,400 skiable acres with 153 trails, making it the largest ski resort east of the Rockies.
