About the Area


The Muikamachi-Hakkaisan Ski Resort is located in the Hakkaisan mountain range in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The resort offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including Mount Hakkaisan, which is a popular skiing and snowboarding destination in the area. The resort also features various slopes and terrain suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, as well as backcountry skiing opportunities in the surrounding mountains.

The best trails for experienced skiers include the challenging black diamond runs of Karamatsu and Shirakaba, while beginners can enjoy the gentle slopes of the lower mountain. A little-known fact about the resort is that it was originally a silver mine during the Edo period, and some of the mining tunnels have been preserved and can still be explored. For beginners, it is suggested to take a lesson with the English-speaking instructors to get comfortable on the slopes. The best apres-ski bar is the cozy and traditional Izakaya Sankichi, which serves delicious local dishes and drinks.
