Verdon Lake State Recreation Area is a beautiful camping area located in southeast Nebraska near the Kansas border. The surrounding views are stunning, with the campground situated on the banks of Verdon Lake, which is known for its clear water and excellent fishing opportunities. There are also several nearby points of interest, including the historic town of Brownville and Indian Cave State Park.

The campground amenities include electric and non-electric sites, modern restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Reservations are available, and campsites are first-come, first-serve. There are a total of 56 campsites available.

An interesting fact about the area is that Verdon Lake was created in 1939 as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project during the Great Depression. The project was designed to provide jobs for unemployed workers while also creating a recreational area for local residents.

The best time of year to visit Verdon Lake State Recreation Area is during the summer months when temperatures are warm and the lake is perfect for swimming and boating. Average temperatures during this time range from the mid-70s to mid-80s.
