CAMPING OKLAHOMA

Taylor Lake

May 3, 2024

The Taylor Lake Camping Area is located in southeast Oklahoma and provides visitors with stunning surrounding views of the Ouachita Mountains. The area is known for its clear lake water and fishing opportunities, with nearby points of interest including the Ouachita National Forest, the Talimena Scenic Drive, and the nearby town of Wilburton.

The campground amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and access to potable water, but there are no electrical, sewer, or shower facilities available. The campsites are first-come, first-served, and there are 10 primitive sites available.

An interesting fact about the area is that the Taylor Lake Dam was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s as part of a New Deal initiative to create jobs during the Great Depression.

The best time of year to visit Taylor Lake Camping Area is during the fall months of October and November, when the weather is cool and comfortable with average temperatures between 50-70°F. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage and the peaceful setting without the summer crowds. Overall, Taylor Lake Camping Area is a great destination for those seeking a quiet, rustic camping experience in a picturesque setting.
