A backcountry permit is required (no reservation fees, but permits are limited), and there are no amenities—no toilets, water, fire rings, or picnic tables. RVs and vehicles are not permitted; access is via the strenuous 12.6-mile East Rim Trail, making this site ideal for experienced backpackers. Perched atop the Chisos Mountains, the site boasts stunning canyon and desert views, sunrises, and solitude. Best visited in spring or fall for cooler weather.
