A free self-issued permit may be required for overnight stays. There are no toilets (pack out waste), no potable water (treat river water), and no amenities like fire rings, picnic tables, or RV hookups. The campsite lies in a scenic, high-alpine river canyon surrounded by pine forest and rugged terrain. Popular for solitude, fishing, and the Encampment River Trail hiking, it’s best visited June–September. Accessible only by foot or horseback, it provides a remote, backcountry wilderness experience.
