The ideal streamflow range for this section is between 200 and 800 cubic feet per second (cfs), which provides the ideal conditions for Class III and IV rapids.
The segment covers approximately 10 miles and features a variety of rapids and obstacles, including the Entrance Rapid, a Class III drop that requires precise navigation, and the Big Drop, a steep Class IV rapid that requires expert maneuvering skills. Other notable rapids include the Narrows, the Jug, and the Boulder Garden.
To ensure safety and prevent damage to the river ecosystem, there are specific regulations in place for the Headwaters To Comanche Creek section. Rafters are required to obtain a permit from the Bureau of Land Management and are limited to a maximum group size of 25 people. Additionally, all waste must be carried out of the area, and fires are prohibited.
