The creek is located in the headwaters of the Eagle River and is fed by several tributaries. The seasonal trend shows peak flow in late spring and early summer from snowmelt, while lower flows occur in the fall and winter. The creek is regulated by the Homestake Dam, which was constructed in 1964 to store water for municipal use. Interestingly, Homestake Creek is known for its excellent trout fishing, with rainbow and brown trout being the most commonly caught species.
