The creek is a tributary of the Arkansas River and is fed by several smaller streams including Jimmy Camp Creek and Fountain Creek. There are no major dams on the creek, but there are several small diversion structures used for irrigation. The flow of the creek tends to be highest in the spring due to snowmelt and lower in the summer and fall. Interesting fact: Turkey Creek got its name from the large number of wild turkeys that used to inhabit the area.
