Hulet No 2 Dam

April 30, 2024

Hulet No 2 Dam, located in Owyhee County, Idaho, was completed in 1987 for the primary purpose of irrigation. This private-owned earth dam stands at a height of 55.3 feet and has a hydraulic height of 51.2 feet. With a storage capacity of 6,770 acre-feet and a surface area of 347 acres, the dam plays a crucial role in water resource management in the region.

The dam, constructed with stone core and rock-soil foundations, spans a length of 2,400 feet and features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 27 feet. While the hazard potential is considered significant, the condition assessment as of May 2018 deemed the dam to be in fair condition. Regular inspections are conducted, with the last one taking place in May 2018 with a frequency of every 4 years. The risk assessment categorizes the dam's risk as moderate, indicating the need for ongoing risk management measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the structure.

Hulet No 2 Dam serves as a vital infrastructure for water supply and irrigation in the area, contributing to agricultural activities and water resource sustainability. With its strategic location on an unnamed stream that feeds into the Snake River, the dam plays a crucial role in managing water flow and storage. Climate and water resource enthusiasts can appreciate the engineering and operational aspects of this dam, along with the ongoing efforts to maintain its safety and functionality for the benefit of the local community and environment.
