Hackberry Draw Site No. 2 Dam, located in Eddy County, New Mexico, is a vital structure designed by the USDA NRCS for flood risk reduction along the Hackberry Draw river. Completed in 1967, this earth dam stands at a height of 38 feet with a structural height of 46 feet and a length of 1663 feet. It has a storage capacity of 320 acre-feet and a spillway width of 400 feet to manage a maximum discharge of 12000 cubic feet per second.
Managed by the Office of the State Engineer, this dam is inspected regularly and has been assessed to be in fair condition with a high hazard potential. Despite its age, the Hackberry Draw Site No. 2 Dam continues to serve its primary purpose effectively, safeguarding the surrounding community of Happy Valley, Carlsbad. With its strategic location and operational efficiency, this dam remains a critical infrastructure for water resource management in the region.
