The Clifton Off Channel Dam in Texas, designed by HDR and completed in 2000, serves as a critical water supply structure for the region. Standing at a height of 73 feet with a hydraulic height of 47 feet, this earth-type dam plays a vital role in storing water from the UN TR-NORTH BOSQUE RIVER. With a storage capacity of 731 acre-feet and a surface area of 37 acres, the dam effectively manages water resources in the area.
Managed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the dam has a satisfactory condition assessment as of December 2015 and a moderate risk assessment level. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway and outlet gates for efficient water release. Despite its age, the Clifton Off Channel Dam continues to meet regulatory standards, undergo regular inspections, and serves as a key component in the water infrastructure of the Bosque County area. For water resource and climate enthusiasts, this dam stands as a testament to sustainable water management practices in the region.
