Wheatland No. 3, also known as Post Lake, is a privately owned earth dam located in Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Built in 1964 by designer Joseph A Elliot, this irrigation structure serves the Laramie River offstream and has a primary purpose of providing water for agricultural use. With a dam height of 28 feet and a storage capacity of 100,271 acre-feet, Wheatland No. 3 covers a surface area of 4,792 acres and has a drainage area of 5.2 square miles.
Despite its low hazard potential, Wheatland No. 3 is in poor condition and was last inspected in July 2019. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway and three other controlled outlet gates. While the risk assessment for this structure is moderate, it is important to note that it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
