Dd Iv-18 is a flood risk reduction dam located in Bourbon, Kansas, along the Mill Creek river. Built in 1998 with a height of 31 feet and a length of 1340 feet, it serves to protect the surrounding area from potential flooding events. The dam has a storage capacity of 1280.99 acre-feet and a drainage area of 3.74 square miles, with a normal storage of 50.18 acre-feet.

Managed by the local government and regulated by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Dd Iv-18 is considered to have a high hazard potential but is currently in fair condition. It has a spillway width of 92 feet and a maximum discharge capacity of 3563 cubic feet per second. Despite its moderate risk assessment rating, the dam has not been modified in recent years, and the last inspection in April 2019 deemed it to be in satisfactory operating condition.

With its vital role in flood risk reduction in the Fort Scott area, Dd Iv-18 stands as a crucial infrastructure project designed by the Agricultural Engineering Associates. Enthusiasts of water resources and climate management can appreciate the engineering and regulatory efforts that go into maintaining such structures to protect the local community from potential natural disasters.
