Landgren Dam B, also known as Marvin Dam, is a privately owned Earth dam located in McLean County, North Dakota.
Built in 1968 by USDA NRCS, this dam serves the primary purpose of flood risk reduction along Goose Creek. With a structural height of 15 feet and a length of 250 feet, Landgren Dam B has a storage capacity of 75 acre-feet, with a normal storage level of 54 acre-feet across a surface area of 7 acres.
Managed by the North Dakota State Water Commission (NDSWC), Landgren Dam B is regulated, permitted, inspected, and enforced by state authorities to ensure its safety and functionality. The dam has a low hazard potential and a moderate risk rating, making it a crucial infrastructure for managing floods in the area. While it currently has no outlet gates, the uncontrolled spillway with a width of 25 feet helps to manage excess water during heavy rainfall events.
For water resource and climate enthusiasts, Landgren Dam B represents a significant piece of infrastructure designed to protect the surrounding area from flooding. With its stone core and soil foundation, this dam plays a vital role in mitigating flood risks along Goose Creek and contributes to the overall water management efforts in North Dakota.
