SCS-Broken Leg Creek Site-2 is a state-regulated earth dam located in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
Built in 1962 by the USDA NRCS, this dam serves the primary purpose of flood risk reduction along the TR-Broken Leg Creek. With a structural height of 30 feet and a length of 1125 feet, the dam has a storage capacity of 536 acre-feet and a maximum discharge of 2520 cubic feet per second.
The dam features a controlled spillway and a single valve outlet gate for water release. It has been assessed to have a significant hazard potential and fair condition, with a very high risk rating. The last inspection was conducted in October 2011, with a recommended inspection frequency of every 3 years. While the dam meets state permitting, inspection, and enforcement requirements, there is no Emergency Action Plan (EAP) prepared or updated for this site.
Overall, SCS-Broken Leg Creek Site-2 is a crucial infrastructure for flood risk reduction in the region, but with its age and condition, there is a need for regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure its continued effectiveness and safety for the surrounding communities and environment.
