Built in 1927, the Earth-type dam stands at a height of 8 feet and spans 185 feet, providing a storage capacity of 59 acre-feet. The lake's primary purpose is for recreation, with a surface area of 7 acres and a normal storage capacity of 31 acre-feet.
Despite its low hazard potential, Lenape Lake's dam is currently in poor condition, as assessed during its last inspection in June 2017. The dam's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) status, risk assessment, and inundation maps are all currently undetermined. With an inspection frequency of 5 years, there is a need for improved maintenance and assessment to ensure the safety and longevity of this water resource in the face of potential climate challenges. As a beloved recreational spot in Jackson Township, Lenape Lake holds both historical significance and potential for enhanced stewardship to protect its ecosystem and surrounding community.
