Sedgwick is a private dam located in Weston, Wyoming, along Alkali Creek, with a primary purpose of fire protection, stock, or small fish pond. Built in 1962, this earth dam stands at 21 feet high with a hydraulic height of 16 feet and a structural height of 25 feet. The dam spans 781 feet in length and has a storage capacity of 169 acre-feet, with a normal storage capacity of 112 acre-feet. Despite its low hazard potential, Sedgwick is currently assessed to be in poor condition as of the last inspection in July 2020.
Managed by the State of Wyoming and regulated by the State Engineer's Office, Sedgwick poses a moderate risk due to its poor condition assessment. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 100 feet and an outlet gate valve. While it has not been modified in recent years and has no associated structures, Sedgwick is subject to regular inspections every five years. With Liz Cheney as the Congressional Representative for the area, Sedgwick serves as a vital resource for fire protection and livestock in the region, highlighting the importance of maintaining its structural integrity and safety measures to mitigate potential risks.
