378 FXUS61 KCLE 270707 AFDCLE Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cleveland OH 307 AM EDT Thu Aug 27 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... Weakening showers and a few embedded thunderstorms will exit the area to the east this morning. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1) Showers and embedded thunderstorms will exit the area this morning, with isolated showers 2) Above average temperatures return next week with highs once again expected to climb into the upper 80s to low 90s. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1... Shower activity, mainly across far northeast Ohio and northwest PA early this morning, with embedded thunderstorms will move east of the area during the early morning hours, with primarily dry conditions expected across the forecast area through the remainder of the morning. Additional showers and a few storms may develop ahead of a slow moving cold front this afternoon, primarily across the far southern and eastern portions of the forecast area, but this activity would be fairly isolated if it manifests. Severe risk is low given lack of deep layer flow, but sufficient destabilization may result in a non-zero chance of stronger brief updrafts that could result in a few strong wind gusts. KEY MESSAGE 2... As ridging builds across the region this weekend into next week, temperatures will be on the rise with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s by Monday and Tuesday. Heat indices in the mid 90s will be possible during this time before the ridge flattens a bit over the Great Lakes by mid/late week. && .AVIATION /06Z Thursday THROUGH Monday/... Scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms are moving across far Northeast OH and into Northwest PA early this morning, with potential brief impacts at ERI/YNG. Otherwise, a period of lower ceilings is possible this morning ahead of an approaching front. Hit this hardest at TOL/FDY where some fog is also possible, but still included at least a TEMPO for MVFR ceilings farther east. Clouds will likely rise to a SCT-BKN cumulus deck around 040-050 this afternoon. A few showers or thunderstorms may develop near YNG/CAK this afternoon before exiting to the southeast. Winds will shift west-northwest today as the cold front moves through and increase to 5-10kt, then shift more north-northeasterly tonight as a trough axis moves through. This trough may pick up enough moisture to lead to MVFR ceilings and perhaps a light shower near CLE/ERI tonight. Outlook...Non-VFR possible in low ceilings and a few showers moving off of Lake Erie into early Friday. && .MARINE... A cold front is crossing the lake this morning, shifting winds to a more northwest direction. Winds of 10-15kt, briefly a bit higher, will continue through early this afternoon before briefly subsiding late this afternoon. Waves of 1 to 3 feet in the open waters in southwest wind will be pushed towards the lakeshore from Cleveland points northeast as winds shift with the front. Winds shift more north-northeast at 10-15kt tonight as a surface trough crosses the lake, building more 1 to 3 foot waves, especially over the western and central basins. Winds and waves are expected to remain a bit shy of advisory criteria, but will be large enough to make conditions unpleasant for small craft and to perhaps bring a moderate risk of rip currents to the shoreline from Cleveland points west. Northeast winds will remain brisk through a good portion of Friday before generally favorable marine conditions arrive for the weekend. && .CLE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... OH...None. PA...None. MARINE...None. && $$ DISCUSSION...03 AVIATION...Sullivan MARINE...Sullivan

Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Boston Mills

Where does the snow data for Boston Mills come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Boston Mills?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Boston Mills?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
