008 FXUS63 KGRB 230558 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 1258 AM CDT Wed Sep 23 2026 Forecast discussion for routine afternoon forecast issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Patchy frost will be possible over portions of north-central and far northeast Wisconsin early this morning. - Dry weather expected across the region for the rest of the week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1257 AM CDT Wed Sep 23 2026 After some patchy frost across the north this morning, temperatures will recover into the 60s as high pressure remains in control of the weather across the western Great Lakes. This high will mean a persistence forecast will rule through the early part of the weekend with continued dry conditions expected. Ensembles then continue to bring marginal rain chances to northeast Wisconsin later this weekend as a surface low spins up over the Intermountain West and ejects north into Canada. However, current thinking is that high pressure will win the battle as it so often does in this scenario, especially with no veritable moisture transport and lack of low-level forcing mechanism. This has already started to come to fruition as the main window of precipitation has shifted later to a window from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning. Have retained 20 to 40% PoPs over our western counties where confidence is higher in at least light rain occurring before scattering out further east. After this initial shot of possible rain this weekend, another dry period is then expected from Sunday afternoon through the early part of next week. Better chances for more widespread rainfall look to be during the middle of next week as high pressure breaks down and deepening low pressure tracks through the upper Midwest. However, trends will have to be monitored as ensembles still diverge on the overall synoptic pattern. Otherwise, most of the extended will be characterized by temperatures mainly in the 60s, warming into the 70s by early next week. && .AVIATION...for 06Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1021 PM CDT Tue Sep 22 2026 Predominantly VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period. Cu field that developed this afternoon has cleared out leaving mostly clear skies for tonight. Wednesday scattered high clouds are expected to drift over the region during the morning with another scattered cu field based around 3-3.5 kft developing late in the morning. Easterly winds have subside for the night.
