670 FXUS63 KGRB 260723 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 223 AM CDT Wed Aug 26 2026 Forecast discussion for routine morning forecast issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Isolated showers and storms (40-60%) are expected through early this morning. Additional scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder are expected this afternoon. Some of the stronger showers or storms may produce wind gusts to 40-45 mph and brief heavy rain. - Next chance for unsettled weather arrives this weekend into early next week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 222 AM CDT Wed Aug 26 2026 Precipitation Trends...A narrow line of showers and storms was moving east across the forecast area late last night into early this morning ahead of a cold front. These elevated storms are being supported by MLCAPE between 500-1000 J/kg and effective shear around 30 kts and should remain non-severe through the remainder of the morning, but brief heavy downpours will be associated with any of the showers or storms. These showers and storms will move out of the area by sunrise. Cyclonic flow from a mid-level trough/shortwave will trail behind the front and generate scattered showers this afternoon aided by daytime heating. A couple hundred J/kg of CAPE will be also be present during the afternoon, which may generate a few rumbles of thunder at times. Inverted-V soundings would also support gusty winds within the heavier showers/storms. The shower activity will come to an end by this evening. Besides a very low chance of showers (up to 20%) in far northeast WI early Thursday evening from a weak backdoor cold front, dry conditions are expected for Thursday and Friday. The next chance for showers and storms arrives this weekend into early next week with the potential for a couple thunderstorm complexes, but location and timing details remain uncertain. Will continue to monitor the potential for severe weather as the synoptic pattern and long- range AI models are favoring severe weather occurring across the Upper Midwest at some point. Temperatures...Throughout the week and into the beginning of the weekend, temperatures, both highs and lows, will hover around normal. Highs will mainly be in the 70s to low 80s, with lows generally in the 50s to low 60s. A few locations across the Northwoods could see lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s Thursday night into Friday morning. If these values trend colder, a few spots may see some frost into Friday morning. Late this weekend into early next week, temperatures will warm above normal with highs in the low to mid 80s, and dew points increasing into the 60s. && .AVIATION...for 06Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1114 PM CDT Tue Aug 25 2026 Isolated showers and maybe a rumble of thunder impact eastern TAF sites through 06z. More concentrated area of showers and a few storms moves across central and north-central WI, and lingering as late as 10-12z for eastern WI. Scattered showers or storms may re-develop on Wednesday late morning through the afternoon, especially north and northeast WI. Have introduced a PROB30 for showers at RHI and GRB for now. Other story will be VFR cigs deteriorating to MVFR (local IFR) cigs late tonight into Wednesday morning. Improvement to VFR cigs will occur in the afternoon. Cigs will gradually scatter out on Wednesday evening. South-southwest winds will gust over 15 kts at times overnight. On Wednesday, expect gusty winds to 15-20 kts at all the TAF sites as winds shift to the west-northwest behind cold front.
