Summary

Skiers hoping for a powder day may be disappointed—only a trace 0.05" of new snow is forecasted over the next 72 hours. The snowpack currently sits at 5 inches, just 61% of the seasonal average, offering limited base coverage. While snowmaking may help bolster thin spots, terrain will likely be variable with firm, packed conditions. Early-season riders should keep to marked trails and watch for exposed obstacles, especially on ungroomed runs.

Beyond the slopes, news of Crotched Mountain’s uncertain future still echoes through the Monadnock region. After being acquired by Vail Resorts, Crotched has seen scaled-back operations, sparking concern among locals. A recent mountaintop ceremony honored longtime contributor Jim Piet, a poignant reminder of the mountain's deep community roots. While the resort remains open, the future of the Legacy by Gersh school on the mountain is in flux, with closure plans announced. Despite the challenges, the spirit of Crotched lives on—devoted skiers are still carving turns and chasing winter under starry New Hampshire skies.
