Mont Avila -- New York ski resort

About this resort

Mont Avila

Mont Avila ski resort in Quebec offers 13 trails suitable for all skiing levels. The resort's best trails include the beginner-friendly La Familiale and the more challenging La Riviere Noire. Interestingly, the ski resort was originally founded in 1964 by a group of Montreal businessmen who wanted to provide a nearby skiing option for their families. For beginner skiers, I suggest trying out La Familiale, which is a gentle, easy run. As for après ski, Bar Le Tucker is a popular spot with a cozy atmosphere and live music.

Terrain mix: Mont-Avila ski resort is located in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada. The resort is part of the larger Mont Saint-Sauveur ski area, which also includes Mont Saint-Sauveur and Mont Olympia.

The mountain range in which Mont-Avila is situated is the Laurentian Mountains, a subrange of the larger Appalachian Mountains. The Laurentians are known for their rolling hills, dense forests, and stunning lakes, making them a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Mont-Avila itself features a variety of ski runs and trails, with a vertical drop of approximately 1,000 feet. The terrain at Mont-Avila is suited for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, with plenty of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs to choose from. The resort also offers terrain parks for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.

Overall, Mont-Avila is a picturesque mountain resort that offers a wide range of skiing and snowboarding opportunities in the beautiful Laurentian Mountains of Quebec.

971 FXUS61 KBTV 250718 AFDBTV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Burlington VT 318 AM EDT Sat Jul 25 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... As of 238 AM EDT Saturday... Chances for showers and thunderstorms have increased slightly Monday as confidence increases for enough moisture and upper level troughing to produce scattered to numerous showers. && .KEY MESSAGES... As of 318 AM EDT Saturday... 3. An unsettled weather pattern is anticipated this upcoming week with several rounds of showers and embedded thunderstorms expected. && .DISCUSSION... As of 318 AM EDT Saturday... KEY MESSAGE 3: Global guidance shows a large spread in potential solutions associated with development/magnitude of mid/upper lvl trof acrs the NE CONUS for this upcoming week. ECMWF/UKMET and ICON show a deepening and closing off 700-500mb circulation acrs the NE CONUS/Mid Atlantic States Tues/Weds time frame, while GFS/CMC are less robust with closing system off and more progressive with mid/upper lvl trof lifting acrs the NE CONUS. The ECMWF/UKMET and ICON solution would need to be watched closely for potential flooding, especially with slow moving showers/embedded thunder associated with being directly under the closed low pres. Given the large ridge/trof amplification expected acrs the CONUS this upcoming week, this solution has the potential to happen, as does a faster with minimal impact scenario advertised by the GFS/CMC. A couple factors could limit heavy rain potential, such as better instability is located to our south and closing mid/upper lvl circulation is associated with northern stream energy with pw values only around 1 STD above normal. We will continue to monitor later guidance packages and look for a trend in the potential outcomes. For now WPC has 60 to 90% Tues/Weds with values tapering off to 30-40% by late week. Highs generally at or slightly below normal, due to clouds/precip, but lows at or slightly above normal. Highs mainly 70s to near 80 and lows upper 50s to mid 60s for Tues thru Fri. && .AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Through 06Z Sunday...High pressure anchored across our TAF sites is resulting in VFR conditions with light winds early this morning. TAF challenging is the potential for fog/br at MPV/SLK this morning. SLK is approaching their cross over temp with some 5-6SM BR already, so given lighter wind profiles than previous couple of nights, intervals of IFR vis/cigs in fog/br is possible between 07-11z this morning. MPV has a little large temp/dwpt spread and feel just a brief period of fog/br is possible near sunrise this morning. Otherwise, VFR prevails at all sites today with south/southwest winds 4 to 8 knots. Outlook... Sunday: VFR. NO SIG WX. Sunday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX. Monday: VFR. Chance SHRA, Slight chance TSRA. Monday Night: VFR. Chance SHRA, Slight chance TSRA. Tuesday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Definite SHRA, Chance TSRA. Tuesday Night: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Mont Avila

Where does the snow data for Mont Avila come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Mont Avila?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Mont Avila?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
