Webb Overlook
One of the biggest draws of Webb Overlook is its location along the Appalachian Trail, which runs right through the overlook. Hikers can take a break at the overlook to enjoy the view and soak in the beauty of the trail. The overlook is also a popular spot for birdwatching, as the surrounding forest is home to a variety of species.
In addition to the natural beauty, Webb Overlook also has a historical significance. The overlook is named after Horace Kephart and George Masa, two men who played a significant role in the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Kephart was a writer and outdoorsman who advocated for the protection of the area, while Masa was a Japanese immigrant who used his photography skills to showcase the beauty of the Smokies and raise awareness of the need for conservation.
Overall, Webb Overlook is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Its stunning views, convenient location, and historical significance make it a unique and unforgettable experience.

- Stay on trail
- Many points of interest sit in fragile ecosystems. Stick to marked paths to protect vegetation and prevent erosion.
- Respect wildlife
- Observe from a distance, never feed wildlife, and give nesting birds and denning mammals plenty of space.
- Pack it in, pack it out
- Take all trash, food scraps, and gear back with you. Remote sites often have no trash service.
- Leave what you find
- Don't take rocks, plants, fossils, or artifacts. Federal law protects cultural and natural resources on public land.
