The earth dam stands at a height of 334 feet, with a hydraulic height of 279 feet, and has a storage capacity of 283,727 acre-feet, making it a critical water source for the region.

The reservoir, situated along Coyote Creek in Foster Park, covers an area of 2,720 acres and has a maximum discharge capacity of 7,400 cubic feet per second. Despite its high hazard potential, with a moderate risk assessment, the dam has undergone modifications in 2001 to enhance its foundation, seismic, and structural integrity.
