Plain-English forecast narrative from the local NWS office. Issued by NWS GYX.

436 FXUS61 KGYX 040631 AFDGYX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 231 AM EDT Fri Sep 4 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... Little change to the forecast package this morning. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1. Sunnier weather today after areas of potentially dense fog early this morning, but scattered showers remain possible, mainly this afternoon. Warmer. 2. A backdoor cold front will allow for a few showers Saturday into Saturday night, potentially continuing into Sunday morning. Otherwise, dry weather on Monday could be followed by more unsettled weather later on next week. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1 DESCRIPTION... Areas of dense fog are possible early this morning, affecting the morning commute. The fog should thin out by 9 am most areas except perhaps the immediate coast and deeper valleys. Scattered showers are then possible this afternoon as cool cyclonic flow aloft persists along with weak SFC troffing. Highs should be warmer today with lesser clouds, especially in the morning. KEY MESSAGE 2 DESCRIPTION... A mid-level trough deepens over the Canadian Maritimes on Saturday. A surface low looks to stall over Nova Scotia, allowing for the development of some retrograding showers along a backdoor cold front Saturday. A few rumbles of thunder can`t be ruled out Saturday night. Temperatures Saturday may trend downward on the coastal plain during the afternoon. By Sunday evening, the aforementioned surface low over Nova Scotia is expected to shift to the southeast with high pressure moving in. High pressure will allow for tranquil weather for most of Monday/Labor Day. Persistent northerly flow over the weekend will lead to cooler temperatures and dewpoints through the holiday weekend with highs mainly in the lower 70s and some breezier winds out of the north. Unsettled and warmer weather may return towards the middle of next week. && .AVIATION /01Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... More fog then brings vsbys and cigs down early this morning, especially on the coastal plain and in the valleys before improving between 12z and 14z. Enhanced LLWS is not anticipated through the period. Friday night: Valley fog is likely at LEB and HIE at night. Mainly VFR elsewhere. Outlook... Saturday: MVFR cigs could linger from LEB to HIE along the US/CAN border. SHRA develop across much of the interior, continuing into the evening. Saturday night: SHRA decrease, but there is a chance MVFR cigs remain over a portion of the area. Sunday: VFR, isolated showers possible with breezy NW winds. No sig wx. Sunday night: VFR with decreasing clouds, overnight valley fog possible. Monday and Monday Night: VFR, not as breezy. No sig wx. Tuesday: VFR, no sig wx. && .MARINE... Areas of fog will be possible over the waters this morning, possibly lingering into the afternoon hours. Northerly flow brings fair conditions through the rest of the day with SCA conditions not expected. Low pressure will be near Nova Scotia come Saturday, with breezy NNW winds becoming northeast during the afternoon. Some gusts near 25 kts possible on the outer waters, continuing overnight. Winds slacken Sunday into early next week as areas of high pressure near New England and the Northeast. && .GYX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ME...None. NH...None. MARINE...None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Ekster/Palmer

Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Mt. Eustis

Where does the snow data for Mt. Eustis come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Mt. Eustis?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Mt. Eustis?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
