550 FXUS63 KGRB 170656 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 156 AM CDT Wed Jun 17 2026 Forecast discussion for routine morning forecast issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Showers and storms return today (80-100% chance). A few strong storms with small hail and gusty winds may occur, with the best potential across central to east-central Wisconsin. - Moderate to heavy rainfall today will have a 60-80% chance of exceeding 1 inch of rain. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 156 AM CDT Wed Jun 17 2026 Today... A strong shortwave will drop into the region today, bringing back widespread rainfall and some embedded thunderstorms. The accompanying surface low will stay stretched across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, which will keep the warm front southwards as well. Therefore the strongest severe weather potential will remain focused in these areas, so if you do have travel plans in the direction of Milwaukee and Chicago today stay weather aware. For our neck of the woods, overrunning moisture will bring heavy rain potential into the area. Probabilistic guidance has reduced the probability of exceeding 1 inch slightly, but still remains in the 50-70% chance in a corridor from central to east-central Wisconsin. For severe weather, potential will be somewhat more limited for our area, but a few strong storms will be possible in the mid to late afternoon after the initial showers push through the area. Shear and upper forcing could suffice to produce some hail and damaging winds with any stronger storms, mainly for areas south of Highway 10. Rest of the forecast... Some isolated convection remains in the forecast for Thursday as well, depending largely on surface heating to develop a few showers in the region. While some thunder can`t be ruled out severe weather is not expected. Dry conditions then return for Friday and most of Saturday. The next potential for active weather will arrive early Sunday morning as the next strong system passes to our south. We are again on the northern edge of this system, so early signs do not suggest this will be a period of strong or severe storms for our area. && .AVIATION...for 06Z TAF Issuance Issued at 909 PM CDT Tue Jun 16 2026 VFR flying conditions prevail overnight, with cigs lowering Wednesday morning prior to cold frontal passage. Expect widespread MVFR and even IFR conditions to work their way east during this time, lasting through the end of the TAF period. SCT showers and storms are forecast Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening, with heavy rain, gusty winds, and up to 1" hail possible with any stronger storms during the afternoon. Vsbys may lower into MVFR or IFR territory if heavy rain or a stronger storm were to move over a terminal. However, have withheld mention of thunder in the TAFs this far out due to low confidence in storm coverage and placement. Post-frontal winds ramp up and shift to the southeast Wednesday afternoon, gusting between 20 and 25 knots. Locally higher gusts will be possible with any convection. && .MARINE... Issued at 156 AM CDT Wed Jun 17 2026 South to southeasterly winds this afternoon will bring increasing winds and waves to the area today. A Small Craft Advisory and Beach Hazards Statement have been issued for the Lake Michigan shoreline as a result. The higher waves will linger into Thursday morning, before winds shift offshore to the NW. && .GRB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Beach Hazards Statement from this afternoon through Thursday morning for WIZ022-040-050. && $$ DISCUSSION.....Uhlmann AVIATION.......Goodin MARINE.........Uhlmann

Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Camp 10

Where does the snow data for Camp 10 come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Camp 10?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Camp 10?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
