The climate is semiarid and hot in the summer, with temperatures often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Precipitation is limited, and the area is prone to wildfires. Hydrology is dominated by the Santa Clara River, which runs through the valley, and its tributaries. Outdoor recreation opportunities include hiking and mountain biking on the many trails in the area, as well as rock climbing and bouldering in nearby canyons.
