Colletti No. 2 is a private irrigation dam located in Kemmerer, Wyoming, along a branch of Willow Creek. Built in 1927, this earth dam stands at a height of 26 feet with a hydraulic height of 21 feet and a length of 536 feet. The dam serves multiple purposes, including irrigation, fire protection, stock, and small fish pond management, with a storage capacity of 76 acre-feet.
Despite its historical significance, Colletti No. 2 is currently in poor condition, posing a low hazard potential but with moderate risk due to its age and maintenance issues. The last inspection in September 2018 revealed its deteriorating state, prompting concerns about its structural integrity. With only one valve outlet gate and an uncontrolled spillway, there are limited measures in place for managing potential emergencies or disasters.
As climate change continues to impact water resources and infrastructure, the conservation and maintenance of dams like Colletti No. 2 are crucial for ensuring the safety and sustainability of water supplies in the region. With proper monitoring and risk assessment, efforts can be made to address the dam's poor condition and mitigate potential hazards, ultimately safeguarding the surrounding community and environment.
