Savannah River Par Pond Lower Dam, also known as Cold Dam, is a federal-owned structure located in Barnwell, South Carolina. Completed in 1959, this earth dam stands at a height of 66 feet and spans a length of 4470 feet. With a maximum storage capacity of 77,500 acre-feet and a normal storage of 60,000 acre-feet, the dam serves multiple purposes including flood control and water supply management for the Lower Three Runs-TR river or stream.
Despite being regulated by the Department of Energy, the dam has a high hazard potential and a moderate risk assessment rating. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway type with a width of 8 feet and outlet gates that are uncontrolled vertical lifts. The last inspection of the dam took place in July 2005, with an inspection frequency of once per year. While the condition assessment and emergency action preparedness information are not available, the dam's risk management measures and inundation maps are yet to be prepared.
