Boyce Park -- Pennsylvania ski resort
Boyce Park Pennsylvania · Plum
About this resort

Boyce Park

Boyce Park Ski Resort is a small ski area located in Pennsylvania, offering six slopes ranging from beginner to intermediate levels. The best trails for intermediate skiers are the Olympic and Giant Slalom, with challenging terrains and long runs. Boyce Park was the first ski resort in the United States to offer night skiing, and it was also the first to use artificial snowmaking machines. For beginner skiers, the bunny slope is the perfect place to start. The resort's lodge is cozy and offers a good selection of food and drinks, but there are no bars on site. For après-ski fun, head to the nearby city of Pittsburgh for a lively nightlife scene.

Terrain mix: Boyce Park Ski Resort is located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and is part of the larger Boyce Park recreational area. The ski resort itself is relatively small, with a single chairlift and a few beginner and intermediate slopes.

There are no significant mountain ranges surrounding Boyce Park Ski Resort, as it is located in a relatively flat area of western Pennsylvania. The resort's elevation is quite modest, with a base elevation of around 1,200 feet and a summit elevation of around 1,340 feet.

Despite its relatively low elevation and lack of significant mountain ranges, Boyce Park Ski Resort still offers a fun and accessible skiing experience for beginners and families. The resort typically relies on artificial snowmaking to supplement natural snowfall during the winter season.

225 FXUS61 KPBZ 130557 AFDPBZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 157 AM EDT Mon Jul 13 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... Added some heat risk highlights for Tuesday and Wednesday. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1) Dry and warm for much of the upcoming week. 2) Shower and thunderstorms chances return at the end of the week and into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1... The current pattern aloft features the massive 500MB ridge over the central CONUS. Actually, encompassing much of the western CONUS as well. Over the next couple of days, this ridge is expected to creep east bringing the higher temperatures to the Middle Atlantic region. Before this, the eastern side of the ridge will feature a shortwave trough passing by to the northeast on Monday. This may spawn a few showers or even a thunderstorm during the afternoon. The Tuesday and Wednesday period will feature the ridge axis finally setting up over the area. These days will be the warmest with Wednesday being more likely to reach Heat Advisory criteria as the ridge will be overhead and cloud cover will be less. The probabilities are over 70% for 90 degree temperatures or more for Tuesday and Wednesday as well. KEY MESSAGE 2... By Friday the ridge is expected to weaken and retreat back to the west. This will allow a trough to set up over the northeast with northwest flow set up across the Great Lakes for Friday and into the weekend. This will allow a few shortwave troughs to pass through the area from the northwest. As such, this will begin another active period of unsettled weather. In fact, the SPC has issued a 15% prob of severe weather for the Friday and Friday night period over the Upper OH Valley. && .AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... VFR with light winds is favored through the TAF period under the influence of high pressure. The morning will feature some fog developing due to some lingering moisture under stable conditions, light winds, and mainly clear skies. Have put some in the ZZV TAF and may see a few instances in the other terminals. The rest of the day will feature some FEW Cu layers through the day with light winds. A few instances of an isolated shower or storm is possible during the afternoon. Outlook... High pressure favors VFR through at least Thursday, with only low probabilities for river valley fog near dawn. && .PBZ WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PA...None. OH...None. WV...None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Shallenberger AVIATION...Shallenberger

Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Boyce Park

Where does the snow data for Boyce Park come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Boyce Park?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Boyce Park?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
