It’s May 3rd, and Whitefish Mountain Resort continues to defy the season with a staggering spring snowpack of 65 inches—more than double its historical average for this time of year. With a solid Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) of 20.1 inches, the mountain is holding onto winter with remarkable resilience. Skiers can expect 6 inches of fresh snow over the next 72 hours, followed by another inch heading into early next week. Conditions are prime for spring corn turns in the morning and soft, playful snow by mid-afternoon. With terrain still accessible and unseasonably deep coverage, it’s a rare May treat for powder hounds.

Despite the extended season, safety remains a top priority. Recent reports highlighted a large avalanche and a tragic tree well incident, underscoring the importance of caution in these variable spring conditions. Additionally, some terrain may close earlier due to seasonal grizzly bear activity. On a lighter note, the resort is already gearing up for summer, with the much-anticipated canopy walk and lift-accessed mountain biking set to return Memorial Day Weekend. For now, though, it’s still ski season on Big Mountain—get those turns in while they last.
