037 FXUS61 KILN 290637 AFDILN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wilmington OH 237 AM EDT Mon Jun 29 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... Increased signal for showers/storms during holiday weekend. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1) Hot and humid conditions this week. 2) Showers/storms possible during holiday weekend. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1) No modifications to the current headlines as the forecast generally remains on track. Notably warmer temperatures arrive today with increased H5 heights. With dewpoints also remaining in the 70s, heat indicies will begin to approach the middle 90s to lower 100s. Portions of central OH down through north-central KY likely have heat indicies remain in the 90s. Thus, have continued to keep some of these counties out of the Heat Advisory for today. By Tuesday, the H5 ridge broadens and becomes more amplified across the Midwest region. Confidence increases in Heat Advisory criteria being reached Tuesday through Thursday, which is why the headline is being held active through Thursday. Still cannot rule out potential upgrade to an Extreme Heat Warning for any of these days depending on how model guidance trends. It does still appear that the hottest temperatures will arrive midweek when the ridge is strongest. Beyond Thursday, confidence is not high enough to keep a heat headline in effect as models continue to highlight increasing clouds, along with shower and thunderstorm chances. KEY MESSAGE 2) Global models and ensembles have been fairly consistent for several days now showing a more active pattern for the holiday weekend. By Friday, the mean axis of the ridge begins to shift eastward and the H5 ridge does begin to dampen a bit. The result is an increased potential for showers/thunderstorms as upper level forcing becomes enhanced, with several shortwaves rippling through portions of the Midwest region. Plenty of instability will be present as well given the hot/humid air mass in place, promoting more thunderstorm activity. While this potential synoptic pattern would increase convective activity, it will also limit the potential for extreme heat. && .AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Chaotic pattern overnight as various cloud types and heights move across the region. Fortunately, CIGs are expected to remain VFR, but clouds will affect potential vsby reductions. Guidance now less aggressive in vsby reductions at KCMH/KLCK, but still expecting at least MVFR vsbys there. Lowest vsby reductions will be at KLUK due to river valley fog. However, vsbys will likely bounce around with passing clouds. Vsbys improve after daybreak, with VFR conditions forecast the remainder of the taf period. Winds become more predominant out of the SSW today, but remain below 10 kts. OUTLOOK...Thunderstorms are possible on Friday. && .ILN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Perfect North Slopes

Where does the snow data for Perfect North Slopes come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Perfect North Slopes?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Perfect North Slopes?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
