As we welcome May at Powderhorn Resort, late-season skiers can still find a touch of winter magic. Despite a below-average snowpack sitting at 20 inches—roughly 24% lower than normal—overnight temperatures dipped to a chilly 26.8°F, preserving current snow conditions. While only a light dusting of 0.07 inches is expected over the next 72 hours, a more promising system is forecasted to deliver up to 4 inches of fresh snow within five days. Though the Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) is a modest 7 inches, cooler temperatures are keeping the terrain skiable, especially on the upper mountain.

Powderhorn remains a scenic, quieter alternative to Colorado’s high-profile resorts, and the recent sale to Utah-based Pacific Group Resorts hints at exciting changes ahead, including innovative slopeside tiny homes. Note: some lift operations may be limited due to end-of-season operations and recent wildlife activity—bear sightings earlier this spring briefly closed a lift for safety. With the season winding down and spring sun softening runs by midday, now is the time to carve those final turns before summer takes hold. Check lift status before heading up, and don’t miss this rare chance to experience May skiing on the Grand Mesa.
