About the Area


The Whitefish Mountain Resort is located in the northern Rocky Mountains of Montana. The resort is situated in the Whitefish Range, which is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains. The highest peak in the Whitefish Range is Big Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 7,000 feet.

Whitefish Mountain Resort offers skiers and snowboarders a variety of terrain, including groomed runs, steep chutes, and tree skiing. The resort boasts over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and has a vertical drop of 2,353 feet. The resort also offers stunning views of Glacier National Park and the surrounding peaks of the Rockies.

The resort offers 105 marked trails, with the best ones being Big Ravine, Inspiration, and Good Medicine. A historical fact that few people know about the resort is that it was originally called Big Mountain and was opened in 1947. For beginner skiers, the resort offers a dedicated learning area called Easy Acres, which provides a comfortable and low-pressure environment for those new to skiing. After a day on the slopes, the best apres ski bar is The Bierstube, which offers a lively atmosphere, great drinks, and live music.
