The best time to float this section is in May and June, when the water flows at 3,000 to 10,000 cfs. Obstacles include Deadwood Creek Rapid, one of the largest rapids on the river, and several other rapids with significant drops and technical maneuvers required. It is recommended to have a guide or extensive experience before attempting to navigate this section of the Salmon River.
