Rawhide, also known as Hamilton Reservoir, is a public utility water supply dam located in Larimer, Colorado. Completed in 1980, this earth dam stands at 90 feet tall and has a hydraulic height of 95 feet, with a structural height of 113 feet. The reservoir has a storage capacity of 20,245 acre-feet and serves as a critical source of water for the surrounding area, with a normal storage capacity of 15,400 acre-feet.

Managed by the Colorado Department of Water Resources, Rawhide plays a vital role in providing water to the region, particularly to the city of Wellington. With a high hazard potential but satisfactory condition assessment, the dam is regularly inspected and monitored to ensure its safety and reliability. The spillway type is uncontrolled, with a width of 20 feet and a maximum discharge of 850 cubic feet per second.

Despite its moderate risk assessment, Rawhide remains a key infrastructure for water resource management in the area, highlighting the importance of maintaining and safeguarding these critical assets in the face of changing climate conditions and increasing water demand. As a significant component of the local water supply system, Rawhide exemplifies the intersection of water resource management and climate resilience, serving as a reminder of the importance of sustainable water infrastructure for the future.
